SECTION VI: HEALTH HAZARD DATA

ROUTES OF ENTRY & HEALTH  HAZARDS (ACUTE AND CHRONIC)

INGESTION:

May irritate and burn the eyes. 

INHALATION:       

Upper respiratory irritation, dizziness, nausea, headache and narcosis.  Repeated and prolonged exposure may cause damage to vital organs such as liver and kidneys.

SKIN:

Can dry and defat the skin causing cracks, inflammation and dermatitis.

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID  PROCEDURES

INGESTION:

Do not induce vomiting.  It can cause chemical pneumotitis and pulmonary edema.  Contact physician immediately.

EYES:

Flush with large quantities of water.  If irritation persists, consult a physician.

INHALATION:

Remove to fresh air.  If not breathing administer artificial respiration.

SKIN:

Wash thoroughly with soap and water.

 

SECTION VII: PRECAUTIONS FOR  SAFE HANDLING AND USE

STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE LARGE AMOUNTS ARE RELEASED:

Remove any source of ignition.  Soak up the spill with absorbent material.  Collect into suitable DOT approved waste containers.

WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD:

Identify as hazardous waste and follow local, State and Federal Regulations concerning waste disposal.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORAGE:

Store in cool dry place.

OTHER PRECAUTIONS:

Do not use torch or cut empty containers which contain solvent vapors and may result in explosion.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION:

If solvent vapor levels exceed the allowable limits, a NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator with self contained air supply is recommended.  For normal operations, no respirator is required.

VENTILATION:

Good flow through mechanical ventilation is recommended in the work area.
