UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: |
Container exposed to intense heat from the fire should be cooled with water to prevent vapor pressure buildup which could result in container rupture. Containers exposed to flame or heat should be cooled with water spray to cool them down. EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. |
|
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS: |
EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. Do not enter confined space without helmet, face shield, bunker coat, gloves, rubber boots and a positive pressure NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus. MATERIAL WILL READLY IGNITE AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURES. |

SECTION VI: HEALTH HAZARD DATA
ROUTES OF ENTRY & HEALTH HAZARDS (ACUTE AND CHRONIC)
|
INGESTION: |
Minimal toxicity, small amounts of the liquid aspirated into the respiratory system during ingestion, or from vomiting may cause bronchiopneumonia or pulmonary edema. |
|
EYES: |
IRRITATING AND WILL INJURE EYE TISSUE IF NOT REMOVED PROMPTLY. |
|
INHALATION: |
High vapor concentrations are irritating to the eyes and the respiratory tract, may cause headaches and dizziness, are anesthetic and may have other central nervous systems effects. |
|
SKIN: |
Frequent or prolonged contact may irritate and cause dermatitis. Low odor of toxicity. |
EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES
|
INGESTION: |
First aid is normally not required. |
|
EYES: |
Immediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if any symptoms exist. |
|
INHALATION: |
Remove victim to fresh air and treat symptomatically, provide oxygen if breathing is difficult. Give CPR id victim is not breathing. Seek prompt medical attention. |
|
SKIN: |
Remove contaminated clothing and shoe. Wipe excess from skin and flush with water using soap if available. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs. DO NOT reuse clothing until thoroughly decontaminated. |
SECTION VII: PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE
|
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE LARGE AMOUNTS ARE RELEASED: |
Evacuate the hazard area of unprotected personnel. Dike and contain any spills. If vapor cloud forms, a water fog may be used to suppress: contain run-off. Soak up any residue with inert absorbent such as clay, sand or other suitable materials. Place in a non-leaking container and seal for proper disposal. Prevent liquid from entering sewer, watercourses, or low areas. DO NOT use combustible materials such as sawdust. Recover by pumping (USE EXPLOSION PROOF OR HAND PUMPS, MAKE SURE THEY ARE GROUNDED PROPERLY) or with suitable absorbent. Disposal of material should be according to federal, state and local EPA regulations. |
|
WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: |
Observe all federal, state, and local regulations regarding proper disposal. |
|
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORAGE: |
Always wear recommended personal protective equipment. Electricity ground all handling equipment. Avoid prolong or repeated breathing of vapors. Avoid contact with eye or skin. Wash with soap and water before smoking or eating. Observe OSHA regulations on exposure limits. Store in a cool dry place. Keep material away from a source of ignition. Keep container closed. Store in accordance with OSHA Regulations 29 CFE 1910.106 in a cool, well-ventilated location equipped with automatic sprinklers or fire extinguishing systems. |
|

SECTION VIII: CONTROL MEASURES
|
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: |
Use ventilation as required to control vapor concentrations-at least 10 air changes per hour are recommended for good general ventilation. If exposure exceeds the PEL/TLV, use the appropriate NIOSH-approved respirator. |
